– It’s like science fiction

Technicians at the Intervention Centre at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, have since the early 2000s developed 3D-models of livers, blood vessels and tumors to be able to plan surgeries. With holographic computing and Microsoft HoloLens, this takes the planning to the next step.

Dr. Bjørn Edwin believes that this technology can support the surgeons to plan surgeries in an even more precise way by having a 3D hologram in the middle of the room. Together with professor and Head of Technology Research at The Intervention Centre at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet, Ole Jakob Elle, they are able to walk around the holographic image of a liver and plan the incisions before a surgery.
